5 Questions You Need To Ask Rising Seniors

One of the most popular sessions during the training workshops I lead for admissions and enrollment marketing teams focuses on asking better questions throughout the college search process.
When you ask relatable questions that feel personal and are more direct, a lot of students will share all kinds of useful information about the things they want (and don’t want) in their future college, what their concerns are, and how they’re feeling about things like visiting campus or starting their application.
With that in mind, here are five questions I strongly encourage you to ask rising senior inquiries as you’re building relationships with this next class of students.
What are you picturing college to be like?
What are one or two things that kind of worry you when you think about your college search?
Talk to me about the size of your future college. What do you see fitting you best?
What do you see as some of the differences between a smaller college like us and a larger university? (Or vice versa if you work at a larger school)
What advice are your parents (or friends) giving you about the college search?
BONUS Q: What are you looking forward to seeing most when you visit campus? That’s a great question to ask a few days before a student comes for their visit.
Try one or more of those out this month – you’ll be happy that you did.
If you found this article helpful, go ahead and forward it to someone else on your campus who could also benefit from reading it. You can also encourage them to sign up for my weekly newsletter.
